At PainMed Clinic, we are committed to providing effective neuropathic pain treatment solutions to improve your comfort and quality of life. Take the first step toward relief if you’re struggling with chronic nerve pain, and book an appointment with our interventional pain specialists.
Neuropathic pain arises from injury or dysfunction of the nervous system. It often presents as burning, shooting, or electric shock-like sensations and can significantly affect daily life. At PainMed, we specialise in identifying and managing complex nerve pain using both diagnostic precision and advanced interventional techniques.
Neuropathic pain is a chronic condition caused by damage or dysfunction in the nervous system. This type of pain occurs when nerves are injured, diseased, or malfunctioning, sending incorrect or excessive pain signals to the brain.
Neuropathic pain is typically characterised by sensations of burning, tingling, or shooting pain. It is often described as a constant, hot feeling, or it can manifest as a prickling “pins and needles” sensation or numbness, particularly in the limbs. Due to the discomfort, many people with neuropathic pain find it hard to rest. It can be long-lasting and difficult to treat, which is why seeking effective neuropathic pain treatment is essential to improving your well-being and quality of life.
Schedule an appointment with our pain clinic in Sydney and discover how PainMed can offer you advanced, personalised treatment for chronic pain management to help you lead a normal daily life.
01
Damage to peripheral nerves can result from diabetes, injury, chemotherapy, or unknown causes.
Symptoms may include:
02
A chronic pain condition affecting a limb, often after injury or surgery, associated with autonomic and sensory abnormalities.
Signs may include:
03
A severe facial pain disorder involving the trigeminal nerve.
Features:
04
Persistent nerve pain following a shingles (herpes zoster) infection.
Symptoms:
05
Nerves compressed or irritated due to anatomical narrowing or soft tissue inflammation.
Examples include:
01
This condition occurs when the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down the legs, is compressed or irritated. It often leads to sharp, shooting pain along the nerve pathway.
02
High blood sugar levels can damage nerves, particularly in thṢe feet and hands, resulting in tingling, numbness, or burning sensations.
03
Nerve damage after surgery can lead to long-lasting pain in the affected area. This is often seen after procedures like spinal surgeries or joint replacements.
04
After the shingles virus has healed, nerve pain can persist in the affected area, leading to ongoing discomfort known as post-herpetic neuralgia.
05
Autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), lupus, and Guillain-Barré syndrome can lead to chronic nerve pain and discomfort due to the immune system mistakenly attacking the body’s own tissues, including nerves and surrounding structures.
01
Local anaesthetics or steroids are injected near specific nerves to block pain signals and relieve temporary or long-term pain.
02
A small device is implanted near the spinal cord to deliver electrical pulses, which interrupt pain signals before they reach the brain.
03
This involves altering nerve activity using electrical impulses or other technologies to manage pain without medication.
04
Our team may prescribe medications such as anti-seizure drugs or antidepressants, which are often effective in treating neuropathic pain.
05
Guided exercises and physical therapy techniques can improve movement and strengthen muscles around the affected nerves, reducing discomfort and improving overall function.
05
Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive procedure that uses heat generated by radio waves to precisely target and deactivate nerve tissue responsible for transmitting pain signals. This technique can provide significant and long-lasting relief for certain types of chronic and neuropathic pain, particularly when other treatments have been ineffective.
